A memorial holds personal photos and stories, so it's fair to want to know exactly who can see it and how. The short version: you're in control of visibility, who can contribute, and whether search engines can find it.

Who can see the memorial

A memorial is reached by its link (and the QR code that goes with it). You decide how widely that link travels:

  • Unlisted — the memorial is reachable only by people who have the link. It won't be listed publicly or shown in search results. This is the right choice for most families.
  • Public — anyone can find it, including through search engines, which can help distant friends who weren't sent the link discover it.

You can change this at any time from the memorial's manage page.

Search-engine visibility

Separately from public vs. unlisted, you can choose whether the memorial should appear in search engines like Google. If you'd prefer it never show up in search — even while you share the link freely — you can turn that off, and search engines are asked not to index the page.

Who can add a memory

Anyone with the link can add a memory — that's the point, so friends and family can all contribute without needing an account. If you'd like more control, you can review contributions before they appear, so nothing goes public until you've approved it. You can also hide or set aside any individual memory later without deleting it.

Sharing safely

  • Share the link where your people are — a family group chat, an email, or printed on a card with the QR code for a gathering.
  • You don't control re-sharing. Anyone you send the link to can pass it on. If the memorial is unlisted, that's usually fine — but if it holds anything sensitive, keep the circle you share with in mind.
  • Contributor emails are never shown. If someone adds their email when contributing, it stays private — it's only so the family can thank them.

Removing something

If a memory shouldn't be there, you can hide it (it disappears from the page but isn't destroyed) or remove it. As the host, you're the caretaker of the page: you can feature, reorder, hide, or take down any contribution.

Keeping your memories

Privacy also means not being locked in. You can download everything — every photo and memory — as a family archive at any time, so your memories never depend on us alone. The memorial page stays online, and after a long quiet period settles into a lightweight archived version rather than disappearing.

If you have a question about privacy that isn't answered here, write to us at [email protected] — a person will answer.
